AntConc
Collocates
You can use this tool to generate odered lists of collocates, i.e. context words that appear around your search term. AntConc also returns a statistical value of "relatedness" of the search term and each collocate. In the default settings, this value is the Mutual Information Score (MI-score, Church & Hanks 1990) and higher values correspond to a stronger relationship between the words (they tend to co-occur more often than would be expected by chance).
- "Sort by": select the ordering option. The default order is "Sort by Stat" and orders your collocates according to their relatedness
- "Window Span": select the word range on the left and right of your collocate, or check the "Same" box to use the same window span on the left and right
- "Min. Collocate Frequency": select the minimum frequency the collocates should have in the corpus. A reasonable boundary when using the MI-score is 5, as it tends to be unreliable with rare items.
